Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving 1

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!

Our celebration will be a little quieter and lower key than most years and will be our first Thanksgiving at home and just the four of us.  While the hustle and bustle of big family events are always fun, there is something nice about knowing we won’t be rushing to and fro all day and can actually sit back, relax, and enjoy our family time.  I’m also pretty excited that Patrick is not working for most of the day (he’s going in to cover for someone late this afternoon through tomorrow morning, but a lot of years he has worked the whole 24 hour shift).

Letters FROM Santa Program #SantaLetters

Postal Service Letters FROM Santa Program

Keeps Children’s Holiday Spirit Alive

Great Photo Opportunity to Treasure for Years

 Santa Stamp

NORTH POLE — Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. And the Postal Service can help you prove it when Santa replies to your child’s letter to Santa — complete with a North Pole postmark!

Here are the steps for your child to get a letter back from Santa:

  1. Have your child write a letter to Santa and seal it in an envelope addressed to: Santa Claus, North Pole.
  2. Tell your child that you’ll place a stamp on the envelope and mail it to St. Nick for him or her.
  3. Later, when alone, open the envelope, read the letter and write Santa’s response on the back of the child’s letter. Have Santa write: “It’s important to be green and save paper. That’s why I’m writing on the back.”
  4. When responding as Santa, reference your child’s accomplishments not included in his or her letter, i.e., Santa is so proud that you volunteered to help ____, or Santa is really impressed with the great job you’re doing in school — especially with math, etc. Sign it Santa Claus with a P.S. to get to bed early Christmas Eve.
  5. Place the letter into a new envelope addressed to the child at his or her home. Be sure to include: Santa Claus, North Pole, as the return address on the envelope. Don’t forget to apply a First-Class stamp — such as a recently issued Santa or Rudolph Forever stamp.
  6. Place the stamped envelope in a larger envelope (or Priority Mail envelope) with adequate postage addressed to:

NORTH POLE HOLIDAY POSTMARK POSTMASTER

4141 POSTMARK DR ANCHORAGE AK 99530-9998

  1. Letters from Santa must be received by the Anchorage, AK, Postmaster no later than Dec. 15, 2014.
  2. The Anchorage Postmaster will open the envelope, remove Santa’s letter addressed to your child, apply the North Pole postmark and mail it back home.
  3. When Santa’s letter arrives, have your camera ready when you ask your child to open the letter and read it to you.
  4. Share the photos on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #SantaLetters. Keep the letters and the photos in a scrapbook as a great family keepsake.

The Letters to Santa program adds to the excitement of Christmas and is perfect for interesting youngsters in letter writing.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.

Planes Fire Rescue Poster

“Planes: Fire & Rescue” is a new comedy-adventure about second chances, featuring a dynamic crew of elite firefighting aircraft devoted to protecting historic Piston Peak National Park from raging wildfire.

“Planes: Fire & Rescue” hits theaters in 3D on July 18, 2014.

One Year Later…

I should be sleeping.

It is after all, nearly 1:00 in the morning.

But for the first time in a long time, I actually feel like writing.

On my blog of all places.

I almost thought I had given it up.

It has been a year today (well, technically I guess that would be yesterday now) that Daddy was laid to rest.  Losing him devastated me.  And the year since…  Well, I’ve taken it one step at a time.

I started a new venture, that while still really new, is doing pretty well.  Not big-time well, but a successful start.  It has taken a lot of focus and a lot of my time.

And Banan’s 2nd grade year hasn’t gone exactly as expected.  There’s a lot of mixed feelings as we prepare for our busy summer and 3rd grade in the fall.  It has been a different experience for me.

I hadn’t completely forsaken my writing, just realized what little I have written, has been on my personal Facebook page.  I think I may share a little piece of that over the coming days.

It was looking through email, which I’ve also somewhat forsaken, that I saw so much blog related “stuff” – PR reps reaching out, Easter content ideas, review requests, emails from blog friends, deals & coupons, and just a lot of misc bloggy things – that made me think about the blog tonight… and I just felt like touching base.  No promises of regular posting, but I will when I feel up to it and am not bogged down by the other stuff of life.  (That stuff I keep thinking I’ll blog about, but am too busy doing it to write about it.)

As I write tonight, though, I realize I’ve missed it.
